| light and at idle, the manifold vacuum pulls the valve open. In a non-recirculating system, it will not work because they open and allow air to enter the intake without going through the MAS. Air simply flows easier through an open hole in the intake pipe than it does through the filter and MAS. So you have to put a stiffer spring in there so that it holds the valve closed under the vacuum of the manifold. When you rev the engine and close the throttle at high RPM, the manifold generates greater vacuum. This greater vacuum combined with pressurized air from the turbos cause the valves only to open in this condition. As soon as the engine reaches idle speed, the vacuum has fallen off enough that the valve closes. If you dont put a stiffer spring in there, they will stay open and the car will not idle at all.
